On 20 December 2025, the Zittau narrow-gauge railway will start its main season and invite passengers to enjoy atmospheric journeys through the wintery Zittau Mountains. The main season timetable offers an extended service for day trippers, families and railway enthusiasts during the Christmas and holiday season. This timetable is valid from 20 December 2025 to 4 January 2026 inclusive.
Guests can look forward to the traditional double steam train trips to the spa towns of Oybin and Jonsdorf from Bertsdorf station. This impressive simultaneous ascent of two steam locomotives is a highlight of the main season and delights visitors of all ages.
In the afternoon and evening hours, a ride on the steam train invites you to experience the Zittau Mountains in a very special atmosphere. The lovingly decorated Christmas half-timbered houses along the route provide an atmospheric backdrop and make every trip a very special experience.
A special highlight awaits guests on 24 December: on this day, Father Christmas will be travelling on two steam trains in the Zittau Mountains. His tour begins in Zittau with the scheduled train at 9:09 am to Oybin. He will stay there from 9:57 am to 10:07 am and then return to Zittau. This train is supervised by the dining car team and arrives back in Zittau at 10:50 a.m.
The second train with Santa Claus is supervised by the Zittau Narrow Gauge Railway Association and departs from Zittau at 9:30 a.m. with Kurort Jonsdorf as its destination. The train will stop in Kurort Jonsdorf from 10:58 a.m. to 11:07 a.m. and return to Zittau at 12:20 p.m. On the way there, the train will stop at Bertsdorf station from 10:02 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. This time can be used to take photos with the steam locomotive and Santa Claus or to enjoy a snack in the station building.
SOEG mbH fares apply on all trains. Children up to the age of 14 travel free when accompanied by an adult.
On Christmas Eve, train services will end at 3 p.m. The last train will depart from Zittau to the mountains at 1:09 p.m. In the opposite direction, the last train will depart from Kurort Jonsdorf at 2:08 p.m. to Zittau, with a change at Bertsdorf station. The last train will depart from Kurort Oybin at 3:15 p.m. with the following special timetable: Bertsdorf station at 3:27 p.m., Olbersdorf Oberdorf at 3:33 p.m., Olbersdorf Niederdorf (request stop) at 3:38 p.m., Zittau Vorstadt at 3:42 p.m., Zittau Süd at 3:49 p.m., Zittau Haltepunkt at 3:53 p.m. and arrival in Zittau at 3:58 p.m.
